During New York Fashion Week, an inclusion-focused fashion show was presented and models with disabilities walked the catwalk to showcase the garments.

In New York, the Fashion Week is the most awaited appointment by all fashion enthusiasts. After six days of festivities, this spectacular event finally came to an end this Wednesday, September 14.

Among the highlights of Fashion Week, spectators were able to enjoy an inclusion-focused fashion show brought to you by the Open Style Lab organization.

This show like no other was organized with the Aritzia brand and the biotechnology company Genentech. The pieces unveiled have been designed and adapted for people with disabilities who suffer from spinal muscular atrophy. This rare genetic disease affects the nerve cells that control the muscles, which causes more or less severe muscle weakness in those affected.

And who better to showcase these inclusive garments than mannequins disabled? On the catwalk, people in wheelchairs and with spinal muscular atrophy marched proudly to present these pieces.

Many different garments were presented, such as a pink suit with a magnetic closure, dresses with adaptable clasps, or even catsuits with tailored cuts. These pieces have been adapted to allow people with disabilities to dress easily while offering them beautiful modern pieces.

If this parade is an excellent idea to highlight people in situations of handicap and promoting inclusion is also a great development in the strict world of fashion. Usually so closed and cruel, the stereotypes of perfect models are increasingly giving way to inclusion, for more diversity.
