According to a report by the OECD released in February 2022, the amount of plastic pollution doubled between 2000 and 2019, reaching 353 million tonnes on average. A considerable figure whose origin comes mainly from packaging (40%), says the organization.

It is particularly in the context of this global problem that the German brand Nivea has decided to propose a change in the habits of its customers. In order to limit the consumption of this packaging, a dispenser has been installed in a store of Hamburg, headquarters of the Beiersdorf group, its parent company.

Customers can thus refill their bottle of shower gel directly in store without buying a new plastic bottle that will quickly end up in the trash.

The shower gel dispenser is currently in the test phase and for six months, it will be a question of observing customer consumption via this system. If this is conclusive, the Nivea brand could thus embark on a larger scale in this innovation, which is still not very widespread in the world of cosmetics.

For this, customers must take the leap.
