And for good reason, this construction offers an incredible vision, both anchored in the place and floating in the air. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) and Barcode Architects, the multi-angled building rises like the bow of a ship and connects water, city and sky. To Amsterdam , water is everywhere, and the architects were inspired by this heritage to create a unique building.
The building is so user-friendly and environmentally friendly that it stands out as an example of future housing not only for the suburb of IJburg, but also for the whole world. Each of its angles offers a different view, a new vision of architecture . The apartments are suspended above the water, so you can sip your coffee and watch the boats below you. 'We tried to design a building with a surprisingly changing perspective and a contemporary character, which reflects the identity of future residents and all users of the Sluishuis' explains Dirk Peters, founding partner of Barcode Architects.

An environmentally friendly building
With an energy performance coefficient (EPC) of zero, the 440 apartments are energy neutral, making this building one of the greenest ever. Thanks to triple glazing, excellent insulation and heat recovery from showers and ventilation systems, it offers a totally healthy lifestyle towards the environment. The building's energy is supplied by the sun, captured and converted into usable energy by approximately 2,200 square meters of solar panels.
