Counter assistant Paul Hawthorn, 56, had to think quickly during his usual Monday morning shift at Leagrave station, when a dog managed to make his way onto the train tracks. One who works for the Thameslink Railway company acted quickly to save the pup from certain death with the help of a croissant. One of the viewers captured the moment and posted it on TikTok which obviously went viral and got Paul praised by many, with over 5 million views.

It all started on Monday morning, around 7 a.m., when the ticket office assistant was informed that a Staffordshire bull terrier was running on a platform. At first, Paul quickly descended onto the dock and grabbed the pup, but unfortunately it managed to get away. A few moments later, by some miracle, the employee managed to get his hands on the animal. But he couldn't let go of the pup because he was in danger of wriggling free again, so he held on and waited for two people to help him back onto the platform.

Here is the video of that moment:

“My worst fear came true when he jumped on the rails. I called the signalman to warn the trains and ask them to slow down, ready to stop if necessary. I'm not allowed to get off the tracks, but the guy at the coffee kiosk on the platform had a croissant and lured the dog to the edge of the platform. He couldn't come back up, but as he lifted his legs to grab the croissant, I managed to grab him and hoist him onto the platform” Paul told our Newsweek colleagues.

Safe in the staff room, Paul posted a photo of the dog on social media in an attempt to get him back to his handlers after this rescue exceptional. And just two hours later, the dog's concerned parents arrived at the station to pick up their pet and explained that the dog was missing. About this moment, Paul explained: “the lady was crying, she was so grateful. Apparently a garage door had been left open and the dog had escaped. »

“It was quite traumatic at the time. I don't have a dog but I thought 'oh my God, he's going to get run over by a train'. In the end, everything went well, it was a relief” confided Paul on this episode which could have ended much worse. On social media in general, and specifically on TikTok, where the video went viral, animal lovers called Paul a hero in the comments.

It's heart-warming, isn't it?
