Portrait of Sara Geurts, a courageous young woman who has decided to assume her physical difference to the point of making it her strength.

In our modern society where appearance takes precedence over everything else, the slightest physical defect, however small, can unfortunately become a source of complexes for some people.

Refusing this diktat of beauty, some nevertheless openly assume their difference physical and have even made it a strength, like Sara Geurts.

Suffering from a skin disease that gives her the appearance of an elderly person, this 31-year-old young woman has indeed decided to accept herself as she is. A choice that changed her life because she has never seemed so fulfilled. However, this has not always been the case, as she said in 2018.

Affected by a rare disease that makes her skin old and wrinkled, she assumes her difference

It was at the age of 10 that Sara learned that she suffered from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare genetic disease that alters the epidermis, giving the skin a saggy and wrinkled appearance.

When she was still only a child, the young woman therefore had to face the gaze of others because she seemed much older than she was.

A difficult time during which Sara had great difficulty accepting her corps of which she was ashamed. To hide her skin, she wore long sleeves, blouses or even long pants.

But the years have passed and the shy and complexed child has gradually given way to a strong woman who assumes her difference. A self-confidence that she owes in part to her family and friends who have never stopped supporting her.

Very active on social networks, Sara no longer hesitates today to display her difference. She even became a model, posing regularly in a bikini in front of the lens. Something unthinkable not so long ago.

« When I changed the way I looked at myself, I discovered a beauty in my body that I had never seen before. “, she said 4 years ago.

Now well in her skin, Sara hopes that her testimony will allow other people to find the strength to overcome their differences, whatever they may be.
