A cancer patient has a 70 kg tumor removed, a first in the medical world

In Italy, surgeons have successfully removed a 70 kg tumor from a woman with cancer. The tumor mass was heavier than the patient herself, making this operation a first in the medical world.

A few days ago, a young woman presented herself to the emergency room of the hospital in Turin, Italy.

After some examinations, doctors noticed that the woman had a 70 kg tumor which was obstructing her abdomen, compressing her lungs and preventing her from breathing.

This tumor was particularly impressive because she was even heavier than the patient herself.

“There is no precedent in the medical literature for a tumor mass of such weight. She weighed more than the patient herself. The tumor filled the entire belly of the patient to the lungs, so much so that she could not breathe” , said Molinette Hospital in Turin in a statement.

To remove the tumour, surgeons began by draining 52 liters of fluid before they could remove the solid part of the tumour, which weighed 25 kg. L' operation went well and was a success, unheard of in the medical world.

The patient was then placed in intensive care and joined a dietetics and nutrition unit four days later. She has since been able to return home healthy.
