A few months ago, a baby was born with one testicle abnormally larger than the other. After various examinations, doctors discovered that it contained the fetus of his twin brother.

According to a study published in the journal Urologie published in August 2022, a 24-year-old woman gave birth to a baby boy with an extremely rare condition.

When he was born, the infant underwent a clinical examination to check his state of health. The doctors immediately noticed that his left testicle was larger than the right and that it contained a suspicious and large mass.

To understand what this mass was, the little boy underwent several examinations including an ultrasound of the scrotum and an x-ray of the pelvis. With astonishment, the doctors discovered that what the baby contained in his testicle was none other… than a foetus .

Her twin's fetus in her testicle

The baby was carrying what is called a “fetus in fetus”, an extremely rare congenital pathology. Worldwide, it is estimated that one in 500,000 births is affected by this anomaly. When twins develop in the womb of their mother, it happens that one of them “absorbs” the other and that the embryo grows in the body of the other twin. It can lodge in different places of the body such as the mouth, the skull or even the liver.

This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened. In India, a woman delivered a baby born with a fetus in her womb in 2017. It was immediately removed as soon as the baby was born. This was also the case of the baby with a fetus in the testicle. Aged only 5 days, he underwent an operation to remove the fetus and was able to be discharged from the hospital the next day.
