Hallee McCoombes, a 10-year-old girl with spina bifida, managed to complete a triathlon despite her doctors telling her she would never walk. A real feat for this young warrior.

Hallee McCoombes is a 10-year-old girl who is a true inspiration and symbol of courage.

The girl has spina bifida , a birth defect that occurs during pregnancy. In the womb, the baby's spinal cord does not develop properly, resulting in a deformed spine at birth.

Because of that sickness , Hallee has no feeling in the waist and knees. To move, she only uses the vibrations she feels through her body.

“Her brain is affected, her coordination is affected and obviously she has a lot of muscles and nerves that are damaged” said Christine, Hallee's mother.

She finished a triathlon

When her illness was diagnosed, doctors told Hallee she could never walk , nor play sports. However, the girl never wanted to accept this prognosis.

'When they tell me that, I don't listen to them' , she decreed.

Armed with courage, Hallee fought against her illness and managed to finish a triathlon consisting of 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running. When Hallee swims, she cannot move her legs and only moves forward with the strength of her upper body. If she is too tired, she swims on her back.

At 10 years old, Hallee is a true warrior and an athletics champion in Australia. The young girl has already done several triathlons as well as hurdle jumping races, which is impressive when you remember that she does not feel the ground under her legs. In 6 years, the girl hopes to participate in the Paralympic Games.
